Passion and Emotions out weigh Logic and Reason
My husband (who is a counsellor) always states the above to be true. You must have seen it in your own lives … remember when you’ve expressed what you thought to be a logical argument to someone but they continue to state, based on their belief or feelings, that what they believe is correct so it has to be right.
Let me give you an example: I lived in London for about 20yrs. My kids went to school there. They had their school uniform and in the winter they had their non-uniform winter coats. These winter coats were up to the individuals – they had to be worn to and from school and out of class. When I came to “good old“ NZ I discovered that in the winter the schools don’t allow winter coats as its “not uniform”. So the kids are freezing walking to and from school and anytime out of class. Being a respiratory nurse, I am aware of the statistics and immense respiratory issues in this country – we have the highest rate of respiratory diseases under the age of 14 in the world and have third worldrespiratory diseases – I am also aware what the International Standards indicate for lung health – so I go to the teachers and headmaster at the school to state the facts and my concerns for my own kids as well as the international students living with me (who are shocked that they’re not allowed to keep warm and are freezing at school and hence are very sick in the winter). The head of the primary section, says, … “that’s nothing I grew up in Christchurch and we never had winter coats or heating and I survived” her attitude was “toughen up”. The headmaster put in place, for the following year, that pupils are allowed to wear hats, gloves and scarves as long as they are a certain colour. Sigh…
Lol!! I still observe kids walking to school in the winter – FREEZING!!
I mean it’s so stupid it’s unbelievable. Other countries ensure the warmth of their school kids but no not NZ coz the kids need to “toughen up” coz we are “Kiwis” and we have to look good in our uniforms …. How illogical and irrational is that!!!!
Its like “please don’t confuse me with the facts” you will disturb the status quo … even if the status quo isn’t working for the health of NZ kids.
Think bigger NZ. Please.
